Welcome
The West Harlem Action Network Against Poverty (WHANAP) is a network of emergency food programs and social services providers operating in Morningside Heights and West Harlem.  We work to increase communication, cooperation, and collaboration, and to build the capacity of each member to provide nutritious food and quality programming.

What's New

WHANAP members recently testified at the NYS Council on Food Policy listening session here in Harlem on the state of emergency food programs.  To view our testimony, please click here.

7.9.08

Customers and volunteers from WHANAP member soup kitchens and food pantries sat down in a roundtable discussion with former presidential hopeful and Senator John Edwards (D-NC) at Yorkville Common Pantry.  They shared with Mr. Edwards their experiences and challenges making ends meet, giving recommendations on how government can help low-income people and work towards economic justice.  Check back soon for links to news stories of the press event!

10.23.08

Today marked the final day of the West Harlem CSA / Local Produce Link project, a collaborative project between WHANAP, Just Food, NYC Coalition Against Hunger, Hunger Action Network of New York State, and the United Way of NYC.  Congratulations on a successful harvest season!  We are now gearing up and focusing our advocacy efforts for the coming winter season.
